Workshop and Hymn Sing: Songs of Transformation, Reformation, and Liberation

  • First Presbyterian Church of Essex Junction 39 Main Street Essex Junction, VT 05452 (map)

This year we celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. As we look to songs of the past and music of today, what do they have to teach us about the power of music to liberate and transform our congregational life, especially our worship?

Throughout the day we will:
- worship and sing together
- explore how embodied song leadership helps strengthen and liberate voices;
- reflect on community singing as a practice that forms and transforms identity through listening and collaboration;
- offer practical teaching strategies useful for teaching music in worship, choir rehearsals and other community contexts;
- share music from a tapestry of cultures and musical traditions with expansive, language, including a packet of materials focused on readings from the Revised Lectionary (Year B).

This workshop is sponsored by the Champlain Association UCC but is not limited by denomination or geography! Lay folks, clergy, choir members, music directors, and the musically curious are highly encouraged to attend.

We'll end the day with a Community Hymn Sing from 7:00-8:30 PM. All are invited, even if you didn’t attend the workshop!
