making music and meaning in a time of separation

March 30, 2020 by Paul Vasile in podcast, News, Leadership

I was excited for an invitation to participate in Radical Love Live in mid-March, an event hosted by the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City that creates space for people to talk about spirituality in all its forms. We had a rich planning call and hoped to move forward, while carefully monitoring the movement of Covid-19 in the country. When we knew the live event would need to be cancelled, along with my travel to the city, co-creators Kelly Wilson and Mark Dilcom invited me to be part of online interview which they released as a podcast.

trust the work

January 15, 2019 by Paul Vasile

There are times when life feels fallow. Dormant. Anxious and unsure.

Energy is flagging, the freshness we felt at the beginning of a project, job, or relationship has passed, or we’re feeling the weight of resistance or struggle. We begin to question whether we’re on the right path, or whether we have what it takes to finish the work we need to do.

July 22, 2016 by Paul Vasile in Worship, Music, Congregational Song

Over the past year I’ve been collecting short songs and hymns focused on spiritual journey and pilgrimage. Some are walking songs or invite body movement; others feature a beautiful or thoughtful combination of text and tune. I have used many of them in congregations I've served as an interim/transitional musician and I'm happy to share the list with others as a resource.

the pilgrimage continues: one year later

July 15, 2016 by Paul Vasile in Pilgrimage, News

One year ago, I stepped away from a steady job, a comfortable New York City apartment, my closest friends and family, and went on a pilgrimage. Beginning in Seattle, I drove down the west coast of the United States over a month, stopping to visit colleagues and friends, and leading worship and workshops along the way. At the end of the trip I was invited for a six-week residency at a church in San Diego but very little was planned afterward. Call it craziness or call it faith, God gave me courage to follow an unknown path.
